On July 19th, 2023, ISBA (International Student Bible Academy) and IMBA (International Military Bible Academy) visited the San Diego Food Bank to understand the importance of nutrition both physically and spiritually. ISBA and IMBA received a tour of the San Diego Food Bank and education on the value of having access to food. On average, the San Diego Food Bank serves 400,000 people per month in San Diego County. In addition, the food bank’s mission is to help families and individuals in need of food, advocate for those in need, and educate the public about hunger-related issues.
Our military members and young World Mission Society Church of God students took this educational opportunity to understand how to serve our communities more. Food is essential to survive daily, but unfortunately, not every family or individual may have equal access to nutritious food every day. Therefore, by allowing ourselves to be aware of this issue and getting involved with community outreaches, the hope of closing the hunger gap may be closer achieved. The San Diego and North County Food Bank partners with more than 500 organizations throughout the country, and many people don’t even know that there are food resources right in their communities!
Our ISBA and IMBA members learned how to get more involved and about the various San Diego Food Bank programs. Programs such as the Neighborhood Distribution Program, Emergency Food Assistance Program, Senior Food Program, Food to Nonprofits Program, CalFresh Outreach Program, Diaper Bank Program, and so much more have allowed many people access to nutritious food. The World Mission Society Church of God hopes to continue to partner with the San Diego Food Bank to serve our local communities, ensuring that nobody goes hungry.
