Sacramento, CA – On Sunday, April 14, 2024, members from the World Mission Society Church of God in Sacramento conducted the 7,830th worldwide clean up campaign at Grassland Garden. Located in Sacramento, California, the community garden saw an impressive turnout of more than 40 members from the Sacramento Church.
The event aimed at promoting community service, while fostering a deeper connection with the local community, had the support of Mayor Candidate Dr. Flojaune Cofer. The Grassland Garden Clean up not only served as a platform for the Church of God to demonstrate its commitment to the environment but also as a means to engage with city officials and garner support for future volunteer endeavors.
Mayor Candidate for Sacramento, Dr. Flojaune Cofer, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, highlighting its significance in both environmental and spiritual realms. “I am so pleased to be at the 7,830th Worldwide Clean up Campaign for the World Mission Society Church of God which is also celebrating its 60th anniversary,” Dr. Cofer remarked. “It’s so amazing to see so many people from our community come out and roll up their sleeves and literally invest in our physical environment to make sure that our pollinator plants are well cared for and Sacramento is able to continue its grand tradition of taking care of the people here for many generations to come.”
Park Commissioner, Robbie Robbins, also commended the efforts of the volunteers, emphasizing the positive impact of their work on local wildlife. “We appreciate you all coming out, spreading mulch, pulling weeds, and getting ready for the springtime when you will see birds and all kinds of wildlife habitats,” Robbins commented, “It’s amazing work to get this done.”
Furthermore, the event served as a means for collaboration between the Church of God and city officials. Invitations were extended to Mayor Candidate Dr. Cofer and Park Commissioner Robbins to participate in future community service events, with a particular interest in organizing a large blood donation drive in Sacramento later this year. Both officials expressed their willingness to collaborate further with the Church of God, recognizing the invaluable contributions made by its members to the local community.
The clean up efforts yielded positive results, with Sacramento Zion volunteers leaving a lasting impression on the community. Mayor Candidate Dr. Cofer and Park Commissioner Robbins expressed surprise and gratitude at the enthusiasm and dedication demonstrated by the Church of God volunteers, noting that such a turnout and level of commitment were rare in similar community initiatives.
The Grassland Garden Clean up demonstrates the impact the Church of God is making not only in local communities but throughout the world. Similar events have been held to clean up polluted streets, parks, downtown areas, and mountains as a Green Earth effort. Efforts by the Church of God are currently being conducted in 30 countries, with more than 29,000 participants and over 106,000 kg collected.
