The International Military Bible Academy (IMBA) of the World Mission Society Church of God, hosted a food drive on Sunday, February 25, 2024, in an effort to relieve military families suffering from food insecurity. The food drive was a joint event between two branches of the Church of God located in San Diego.
On the morning of the event, five news stations, including ABC, NBC, and KUSI, broadcasted the food drive to spread the news and encourage the community to come and participate in this volunteer opportunity. The food drive event had coverage on television over the course of four hours! Through this media opportunity, the church members could display the glory and love of God. Heavenly Mother always teaches us to be the salt and light of the world. Everyone in the local community had an opportunity to see the glory of Heavenly Father and Mother through this gracious event.
The World Mission Society Church of God regularly organizes such volunteer events, not only in San Diego but all throughout the world. Donations are done based on the need of the local area and the pressing needs of the community. These events are carried out under the direct guidance of Heavenly Mother who teaches us to serve those in need through her precious teachings. Even Heavenly Mother herself participates these volunteer activities, encouraging church members and giving to the community.
Donation to Feeding San Diego
Two hundred boxes were prepared by IMBA members by collecting nonperishable goods such as canned foods, rice, oats, and other items that would be donated to a local food bank, Feeding San Diego. Not only were the volunteers busy collecting, organizing, and boxing the canned goods, but they even put on short performances to bring positivity to the event. The performances included a quartet, cheering team, and martial arts demonstration to encourage all volunteers for the event.
By God’s power and grace, a total of 3,586 pounds of food were collected. The workers at Feeding San Diego were very moved by the efforts of the Church of God members saying, “The group was very productive and enthusiastic!”
The Church of God members truly are zealous to carry out volunteer works with the heart of God the Father and God the Mother. Christ taught us to love our neighbors, and through events like these, the members can put Christ’s teaching into practice.
Food insecurities gripping the nation
ABC News reported that many military families face food insecurities due to the high cost of living, the need to move frequently, occupational licensing challenges, low pay scale, and not being able to qualify for SNAP benefits. The food collected during this food drive will be enough to feed 790 households in the local community. One IMBA member shared that through this event, the Church of God wants to comfort families by providing them with meals.
The Church of God understands that many individuals and families face difficult times putting a meal on the table every day. With the heart and love of Heavenly Mother, church members and compassionate members of the community contributed to this large-scale food drive to touch the hearts of many families who may be facing dire situations. Just like our physical parents worry so much about providing for their children, we pray that everyone involved in this event can feel the love of our Heavenly Parents, who always want to provide for the whole world.
