On Sunday, January 21, 2024, members from the Southwestern Region came together in Riverside, California. In a great demonstration of love and unity, more than 700 leaders from Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, Alaska, and California met for education on Christian manners and to learn the blessings and responsibilities of being a leader in the World Mission Society Church of God.
A role that is not taken lightly, leaders in the Church of God have a sense to take on a certain level of responsibility for the order and management of feeding God’s sheep. After Jesus gave the keys to the kingdom of Heaven to Apostle Peter, Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep” (John 21:15-16). Following Jesus’ example, leaders constantly refine their character by reflecting on themselves and learning how to better follow the example of Heavenly Father and Mother.
Through this event, the members were able to receive many realizations and understanding of God’s administration of redemption. It began with a video on Christian Etiquette, explaining manors and the type of attitude we should have as followers of God: “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.” (Romans 12:10)
Jazmin, from the Church of God in Temecula, had this to say about the day’s event:
“It was an eye opener knowing what it takes to be a good leader which is to be a great follower first. Having confidence in our current leaders and being obedient is important for a smooth church administration. All of it truly goes back to Heavenly Mother’s words of love and humility. Heavenly Mother always sets an example of serving and showing love to her children.”
The Mindset of an Owner
Another big focus for the event was Mother’s Teaching #6: “Although others do not work, let us work faithfully without complaining. When we work with the mindset of an owner, we can work with joy and ease.” With this teaching in mind, members were able to realize the type of mindset they should have. No matter what we do, we should have the mind to work as an owner.
One female adult member from Fresno, Elvia, expressed her feelings about this opportunity to receive the education and to become a better leader: “I will become a great follower. Having the mindset of an owner, I will make resolutions to become a better leader for the glory of our God.”
The event came to a conclusion at 4 PM with a group picture and a chant. Many stayed after to share fragrances and enjoy time together before heading to their respective hometowns. The church also held an event similar to this in the summer of 2023, so the members were grateful for another opportunity to learn and receive realizations.
Through God’s grace, all the members in attendance were refreshed with the word of God and encouraged to carry out the gospel work with the mindset to advance the kingdom of Heaven in 2024.
