On Sunday, January 21, 2024, the World Mission Society Church of God in Santee hosted a massive sock drive with the initiative and goal of donating 7,000 pairs of socks to individuals who are in need of warm clothing during the winter.
In order to prepare for this one day sock drive, members of the World Mission Society Church of God reached out to local stores to inform them about the event. In addition, KUSI and CBS news segments reported about the sock drive, which led to more people coming to give their sock donations. Through this gracious event and the grace of God, the goal of 7,000 was exceeded with a total of 7,581 pairs of socks donated! This collaboration and great community effort led to an impact on locals who may be struggling to stay warm. All the donations were distributed by the San Diego River Park Foundation.
In the News
On KUSI news, one volunteer Thalia Mancilla stated, “We really want to share the love of God the Father and God the Mother by having socks donated to those who need it.”
Many people desire to help those who need the help but do not really know where to start. Another volunteer Alex Hansen stated “A lot of people have that in their heart…they want to do something good for people who are near them, but sometimes it’s a little difficult to know exactly what to do. So, in this event, we partnered with the San Diego River Foundation and they let us know that socks are the highest in demand during the winter time. This is a really meaningful way to contribute to the community, and we’re just providing that avenue for people so that they can bring their warm hearts to the cold feet in San Diego.”
On Thursday January 28, members from the student, young adult and adult groups visited the San Diego River Park Foundation to delivered the 7,581 pairs of donated socks. They met with the Chief Operating Officer who awarded the church with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of the massive donation. It was the largest donation they had ever achieved since they first began their operations in 2001. The members efforts to deliver the love of God and serve our community with this small deed made a big impact!
Thanks to Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother for such a gracious, impactful, and meaningful event that was able to touch many hearts of the local San Diego community.
