Honolulu, Hawaii – On February 4, 2024, the Church of God in Honolulu carried out a neighborhood cleanup in preparation for the upcoming Passover festival. Approximately 40 members gathered with a joyful mind to beautify North Vineyard boulevard.
For nearly a mile, from Punchbowl to Liliha Street, volunteers picked up litter and trash along the busy thoroughfare that is home to apartment residences, businesses, and even a botanical garden. As Jesus Christ instructed His disciples to “Love one another” on the night of the Passover, the volunteer Church of God members eagerly desired to share the love of God with their neighbors through the cleanup.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13: 34-35 NIV
Celebrating the New Covenant Passover
Every year the Church of God celebrates the New Covenant Passover. The annual festival is observed by partaking in the flesh and blood of Christ through the Passover bread and wine. In preparation for the Passover, Church of God branches worldwide participate in activities in their local neighborhoods, such as street clean-ups and blood drives.
As Christ demonstrated his love and sacrifice by establishing the New Covenant Passover, the members of the Church of God want to resemble God who is love. Through the cleanup effort, not only could the volunteers feel the love of God, but also the heavenly love amongst the brothers and sisters of the church who were united.
Environmental Preservation Globally
Through this cleanup, the Church of God in Honolulu is contributing to a global effort to protect the environment. The World Mission Society Church of God conducts various environmental preservation efforts; under the goal, “Let’s clean our neighborhood, region, and the whole global village for a happy world!”
Seeing an amazing result in the end, the members thank Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother for having the opportunity to display God’s glory and help revive their community. We hope to inspire others to participate in any way they can to save precious life through environmental preservation.
