On December 3, 2023, members of the Elohist Club, mostly composed of the World Mission Society Church of God university students and regular university students, hosted a gardening event at the California State University, Fresno campus with the united goal of glorifying God Elohim.
The Elohist Club has been partnering with Fresno State’s maintenance team. The goal is to continue sustainability, gardening, cleaning, and planting projects all around campus. The Elohist Club has been hosting these volunteer events at least once a month. Recently, the university’s environmental clubs have joined to contribute to the efforts of making a more beautiful and sustainable campus.
During this event, over 30 volunteers met together at 8 AM. They planted rose bushes, pulled weeds around campus, and laid down mulch. By eliminating grass and replacing it with mulch, it enables the university to conserve water and resources.
Working towards UN SDGs
This initiative was in alignment with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Per the United Nations SDGs official website, there are 17 SDGs which are “an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.”
With that in mind, the Elohist Club and the campus are working together for sustainability efforts. The club, also known as ASEZ (Saving the Earth from A to Z), is a group of university student volunteers from the Church of God, who act to solve practical problems around the world.
With this consistent partnership, the Elohist Club hopes to be the “salt and light of the world” and create a more sustainable and welcoming campus. They also want to be a gracious example by promoting the spirit of volunteerism to the youth. The outcome of the event was such a success. The maintenance team expressed their gratitude for our volunteer service and stated that they look forward to the next partnership.
The club has held numerous events at the campus and plans on continuing to work towards a better future. The Elohist Club will continue to host events on campus to work toward this goal. Keep your eye out for events in the year of 2024.
