Sunland, CA – With school out and summer officially underway, the Southwest Region of the Church of God held it’s 2023 Kid’s Camp at the Church of God in Sunland. Families from Sunland, Los Angeles, Temecula, Riverside and Orange County all joined together for a fun-filled day of education, games and play.
The day began with a lively presentation on manners, demonstrating how kids and parents can show respect to one another and their surroundings. Kids gave examples of good manners and reflected on the importance of being good citizens who display the glory of God.
Next, an interactive bible study proved how the Bible is true, citing scientific evidence. Kids were able to see how the bible precisely explained about the water cycle and how the earth’s core is filled with magma, centuries before scientists confirmed these things to be true.
After the morning education, kids were able to enjoy various games outside, along with snacks and ice cream that had been prepared for them. Many of the games were inspired by Korean culture and required skill, wit and persistence.
Church members take turns dressing in traditional Korean hanbok and posing in front of a Korean photo backdrop.
Kids Playing Traditional Korean Games Tuho-nori (l) and Ttag-ji (r)
One such game, Tuho-nori, required each person to carefully toss an arrow into a narrow vessel from a distance. Another game, Ttag-gi, required its participants to use their best hand-eye-coordination to strike one square tile with another, making it flip over. Though not an easy feat, many kids could be seen joyfully partaking in the challenge.
The fun and games continued until lunch time, where members ate cheeseburgers fresh off the grill, dinosaur chicken nuggets, seasoned fries and homemade chocolate strawberries. After a fulfilling lunch, kids were gifted a thank you box with treats to take along with them to their next adventure at the Kidspace Children’s Museum in Pasadena.
Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me…
Mark 9:37 (NIV)
Once at the museum, kids participated in various crafts, explored the many play structures and stations, and enjoyed a cool escape from the heat in the popular creek. It was an excellent opportunity for all to have fun together as members of the heavenly family and give thanks to God for another wonderful day.
